The schedule of classes is a very well balanced program to ensure everyone at every level and age is getting the training amount and curriculum they require to be successful and move forwards in their Karate training. For intermediate and advanced members two blocks per evening are recommended. The schedule and class content is programmed for this kind of training regime.
Juniors
Juniors under 10 or under green belt - This age/rank group should start off with about 1.5 hours per week (two classes per week).
Juniors over 10 years old or of 5th kyu or higher will require more training and more specific training- At this age and rank they should be training 2.5-3 hours per week, and should be having at least one of their weekly classes to be an adult intermediate class. (They should still train with their age group most of the time but will move forwards more effectively by training in the intermediate specific class on a semi regular basis.)
Juniors of 3rd kyu or higher should continue with the 2.5-3 hours per week minimum, but should now be training more often in adult classes and should be training in the brown and black belt class once per week.
Adults
Adults of 6th kyu rank or lower will need 2-3 hours per week to get a good grasp of things and retain all of the new information they will get in this very important stage of their Karate training.
Adults of Brown and black belt levels should be training between 3.5 and 5 hours per week to effectively grow with all of the specific trainings, skills and knowledge required for these higher level ranks.
Practicing at home or after class is very important. A student of any age should practice about of the time they train at the Dojo again, at home. So if you train at the Dojo 3 hours per week try for 1.5 hours per week at home to review what you have learned at the Dojo. |
