VALLEY SHIDOKAN at the

BC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Valley Shidokan Karate students are back in training this week, even after a busy weekend at the BC Karate Championships.  An enthusiastic team of 15 karate students coached by Sensei Don Sharp and Sensei Sal Sharp returned to Chilliwack with 16 medals and several Provincial Championships.

Finalists from each of the six regional tournaments held throughout BC, earn the right compete in this annual Championship event hosted by Karate BC.  Valley Shidokan’s team of Zone 3 regional finalists included Takara Charlton, Avery Davis, Kory Zinck, Nikolaus Charlton, Lucas Davis, Zachary Charlton, Brendan Whieldon, Amanada Kerliuk, Ian Robertson, Peter DeVett, Tamiko Charlton, Mike Zinck, Ernie Charlton, Tammy Rowan, and Tania Zink.

Valley Shidokan Karate members successfully competed in both Kata and Kumite divisions.  Katas are a formal set of postures, movements and techniques designed to teach a student the techniques and principles of karate.  Kumite is a sparring match where points are awarded based on techniques used against an opponent.

Martial Arts is one of the fastest growing activities in North America.   For over 30 years, Valley Shidokan Karate has combined traditional Martial Arts training, etiquette, and philosophy with modern concepts of fitness, self-defense, and competition.   For more information on training programs offered for children, youth, adults and families, call 858-2807.
